Selected Past Projects

Below are some of the select projects that Dr. Forbes has been involved with across the United States for a variety of clients. 

Upstate New York

Development of a comprehensive collection of individual road trip itineraries and supporting driving travel packages for destinations across Upstate New York.  Within 2 years, the collection garnered placements for the driving travel package products with 20 overseas tour operators and generated 2182 room nights for New York State’s off the beaten path places, the majority from international travelers. 

Experience Virginia

Development of a comprehensive collection of road trip itineraries and supporting driving travel packages throughout the state under the Cooperative Marketing Grants Program of Virginia Tourism Corporation.  The collection delivered more than a 4:1 return on investment in new tax revenues and 1200 room nights to Virginia’s off the beaten path destinations. 

Route 66

Development of a 15 Day and 22 Day Route 66 road trip packages for sale through international tour operators which delivered thousands of satisfied travelers and thousands of room nights to small unique accommodations properties along the route. 

Ohio Amish Country Scenic Byway

Development of a leisure travel experience that incorporated a comprehensive package of authentic Amish experiences along the Byway, which became the subject of a PBS special when a group of students from Dallas Texas who had never experienced another culture, took the trip. 

Automotive Byway and Motor Cities National Heritage Area

Development of a special collection of road trip itineraries and supporting driving travel packages featuring the “Driving Capital of the World” chosen after a competition of organizations required to illustrate their expertise in driving travel.

Ohio River National Scenic Byway

Development of a collection of road trip itineraries and supporting driving travel packages for each county which the Ohio section of the Ohio River National Scenic Byway passes through, featuring historic towns and authentic heritage sites along the route. 

Travelocity

Official contracted supplier for Travelocity for individual road trip itineraries and supporting driving travel packages featuring off the beaten path US destinations that ultimately delivered 4,000 traveling parties each booking a trip between 5 and 15 nights. 

Discover America

Development of an exclusive collection of road trip itineraries and supporting driving travel packages in conjunction with a special promotion between Samsonite Luggage Company Stores and Travelocity, marketed with each luggage sale. 

The History Channel

Development of a exclusive collection of road trip itineraries and supporting driving travel packages featuring two National Scenic Byways in each of the 50 US states to accompany exclusive programming featuring travel in every American state. 

National Scenic Byways Official Logo Designee

Authorization to display the National Scenic Byway logo on any road trip travel package featuring a National Scenic Byway

Travel Industry Association/See America/National Scenic Byways and National Park Service Promotion

Official designated supplier of road trip itineraries and driving travel packages featuring National Scenic Byways on See America, the then international marketing website of the Travel Industry Association.  Provided original copy about each Byway for the website presentation.
